My inspiration comes from the landscape but rarely the grand vista. More often it is the easily passed over, the transitory private moments, the fragment glimpsed in peripheral vision. I love the patterns of modern agriculture as much as the natural forms, of barriers and ways through. But I am also enthralled by the qualities of the media I use, whether it be acrylics or oil and cold wax, different drawing materials or gentle tinting by water colours. The painting becoming a landscape in itself. Framing is important to me and sometimes becomes part of the painting itself, whether it be an enclosing barrier or a patterned extension of shapes or patterns in the painting itself.
