My inspiration comes from the landscape but rarely the grand vista. More often it is the easily passed over, the transitory private moments, the fragment glimpsed in peripheral vision

I am a professional artist specialising in fibre art but I also draw, paint and do digital art. I live in Thurso on Scotland’s rugged North Coast with my husband, our 2 sons and our Border Collie Luna. I believe we need to move away from the elitism of the art world as many people see artists as unapproachable and fine art as unaffordable. In my opinion art should be accessible to everyone so I create art to suite every budget and no matter the question please feel free to contact me at any time.

With her love of nature and all creatures wild, it is no surprise then that she loves painting wildlife and, in particular, kingfishers, butterflies, foxes, puffins, highland cows and hares. Her preferred medium is either watercolours or acrylics and Rapson-Grant is not afraid of experimenting with new painting techniques either.

I have been drawing since I was a young child on and off and always had an interest in art of any form. My interest to put more time into art was sparked again on the streets of Rosarito in Mexico back in 2006 when I first saw a live street artist producing amazing spray paint art right there on the pavement.

Becoming an artist was a childhood dream. Valerie was always drawing.
Training at Goldsmiths, not as an artist as she would have loved, but as a geographer and geologist, led to a teaching career. Cartography, botanical illustration, quilting and embroidery have paralleled teaching and lecturing and been stepping stones to textile art. Her dream is coming true.
